Margibi County – Students of the Alfalit Literacy Program in lower Margibi County have been encouraged to remain steadfast in their studies and never get complacent with the level of education they have achieved in the Alfalit literacy program.
At program marking the closing of the 2016 cycle of the Alfalit literacy and basic education program at the Gbewein Public School in Lower Margibi County, the Director of Alfalit Liberia, Rev. Emmanuel Giddings told the students that “their good enough is not good enough until desire more for education.”
According to him, beneficiaries of the program should not feel completed by the fact that they can now write their own names and identify numbers, adding that it is not the end of their education. If they develop the mentality of wanting more, they will advance in their learning beyond Alfalit.
“Now that you can read, write and do simple arithmetic, it will not be enough for you if you develop the mind that, good enough is not good enough and always desiring to advance yourself,” Rev. Giddings said in his remarks to the students in Margibi County.
About 49 students of the Alfalit literacy program were awarded report cards at the program, qualifying them to advance to the next level of the literacy program.
At the program, several students testified of the impact of the Alfalit literacy program in transforming their lives and thanked the organization for its continuous support to literacy in Liberia. The participants pleaded for the continuation of the program in their communities.
“Because of Alfalit program, I am able to go at the bank to send and receive money on my own without anyone’s support anymore,” said 54-year old Mary Johnson.
“But right now, with the knowledge I have acquired from Alfalit, I no longer allow someone to fill up my bank slip” said 54 years old Mary Johnson said when she attested to the success of the program on Wednesday.
