AccessBank Liberia Vigilance Exposed How Manager’s Checks Belonging to GOL was Deposited at the Bank

MONROVIA – On April 2019, AccessBank Liberia became aware of suspicious transactions involving manager’s checks issued by another commercial bank as a result of an internal audit exercise. Immediately upon receiving this information, AccessBank Liberia froze the implicated account and requested an arrest of a key external person. At the same time, AccessBank Liberia informed the authorities, including the Central Bank of Liberia, the Financial Intelligence Unit, the Liberian Revenue Authority, the Ministry of Justice and other concerned government parties.

We are thankful to the integrity, vigilance and hard work of our Internal Auditors for their discovery, allowing the Bank to take quick action to flag this account, resulting in the freezing of funds and kicking off of the investigation by the Ministry of Justice.

Since the discovery, AccessBank Liberia has supported the Ministry of Justice and Liberian National Police in their investigation in all regards. Likewise, the institution will continue its full support in order to ensure the protection of the laws and revenue of the country.

AccessBank Liberia remains committed to its role as the leading lender to Liberian Micro and Small Businesses and as a partner for the development of the country.
