Last night, a group of young professional Liberian women met at Angler’s Bar and Restaurant for a “surprise” celebration.
A Lebanese “waiter/supervisor” or whatever he is, came over to our table to tell us to lower our voices because we were disturbing the other guests (who were sitting out on the veranda) in a sparsely populated BAR – one table full of white guys and another table mixed with Liberians and expats.
Lower Your Voices he said. In a Bar! Let’s just say, he was quickly removed from supervising the service at our table and sent to the table full of white guys while another Lebanese “supervisor” took over and apologized on his behalf and that of the restaurant.
This is the same overly-priced restaurant that has had other incidents in the last few years.
Now, when we speak of how patriarchal our world is and what women have to go through every single day, things that would not happen to men- some tell us to stop seeing everything thru those lenses. I cannot imagine that fool telling a group of men to lower their voices.
