Grand Bassa County – Nat Bayjay, a son of Grand Bassa County, has donated 3,000 stickers as his personal contribution towards the county’s 2016-2017 County Meet campaign.
Bayjay serves as the Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs at the Liberian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria.
With the inscriptions: ‘I support Grand Bassa County’sthird straight Count Meet success – operation ‘kpa for’ (carry for good)”, the stickers display pictures of the county’s 2015 winning team, the formal presentation of the trophy by Vice President Joseph Boakai and Bayjay sporting a Bassa jersey.
An ex-officio of the Grand Bassa County 2013-2014 Mobilization Committee that ensured the county’s first success in 24 years, Bayjay said he was making the initial contribution of the 3,000 stickers as a way of encouraging all Bassa-speaking citizens, regardless of their status, to support the county’s third straight victory.
“As a pioneer member of that 2013-2014 Mobilization Committee that won the trophy for our county for the first time in 24 years, I’ve returned today to donate these stickers to the county for all the pehn-pehn riders, vehicle owners and others to display them in support of our third successive bid to take the trophy forever”, Bayjay said.
He made two separate presentations on Tuesday, November 29 in the county.
Unveiling a symbol of the sticker to hundreds of Bassa Citizens attending a ceremony on Compound One, Grand Bassa County, Senator Nyonblee Kangar-Lawrence who heads the county’s legislative caucus, for and on behalf of the county thanked Bayjay for remembering his county at such a time despite being based in faraway Abuja.
She used the opportunity to urge all Bassa citizens attending the formal dedication ceremony of the district headquarter of Deputy Speaker Hans Barchue on Compound One and others from afar to emulate Bayjay’s gesture.
Later in the port city of Buchanan, Mr. Arthur Jimmy, the Chairperson of the Bassa Sports Association (BSA), thanked Bayjay for his continuous support to the county’s sporting initiatives.
During a brief ceremony in Buchanan attended by officials of BSA, some prominent citizens of the county and the local media, Mr. Jimmy recalled Bayjay’s personal and collective involvement that led to Grand Bassa’s last two successive victories in the football and basketball categories.
Alexander Togar Bealded, another prominent son of the county, and Bahn Geezay alias ‘Wedigar’, the country’s current leading comedian and a son of the county, accompanied Bayjay to the county.
Bealded and ‘Wedigar’ in separate remarks thanked Bayjay for his contribution to the county and urged all other Bassa people to follow suit, using their ‘God-given’ talents.
Grand Bassa County begins its second successive title defense in both the football and basketball categories this weekend. For football, the county plays Gbarpolu County in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County on Sunday, December 4 in a group that also features the host and Bomi County.
A third straight win for the county will allow them to keep the trophy in accordance with normal international football practice.
