Bellefanai, Bong County – Bong County District 4 Representative, Robert F. Womba (Unity Party) has indicated that road and bridges are major development priorities of his district.

In his legislative report to his constituents in Bellefanai over the weekend, Rep. Womba noted that although the cardinal responsibilities of a lawmaker are lawmaking, representation and oversight, he, with the help of his colleagues will continue to augment government’s effort in rendering basic social services to the constituents.
He narrated that following prolong court process in the wake of his election which dragged on from October 2017 to April 2018, he identified several developmental needs including road and bridges rehabilitation/construction, school and educational supplies as well as hospital and clinic supplies.
He added that part of his intervention in the district include the construction of teachers and nurses’ quarters, guest houses and town halls in various parts of the districts.
“In my mind bad roads prevent our people from carrying their produce to market, take the sick and pregnant women for safe delivery to nearby clinics and also prevent both educational and medical supplies from reaching our people,” he averred.
Despite the prolong delay in receiving government funding for development purposes, the lawmaker said he, with support from some of his fellow lawmakers embarked on tackling some developmental projects he believes are priorities to his people.
Among them include the lobbying (with his colleagues) for the allocation of US$50.00 in 2018/2019 budget for the opening of Yowee Clinic.
He named some of his self-initiated projects as the Peleli Towm Hall project which was dedicated on June 9, 2018 and furnished with 75 plastic chairs; construct four bed-rooms teacher quarter in Bellemu Town, build a Town hall in Kpoe as well as the Jorwah guest house project dedicated on May 4, 2018.
He also named the Bellefanai and Nyensu Youth Centers, the Nyansue Community school worth US$20,000.00 and provided US$6,000 for the renovation of the Payetai Elementary and Junior High Building.
The Bong District #4 Lawmaker furthered that the construction of the Layweh Town and Warta Town Halls construction projects are still ongoing.
For the road projects, Rep. Womba recounted that he provided funding to mold concrete culverts for the Belekpayah Bridge between Gbansue Nekai and Shankpalai and culverts for the Taryanoh Bridge also linking Nekai and Shankpalai.
Other interventions, he added include the donation of 50 pieces of steel rod and 50 bags of cement and cement blocks for the Gbonota Elementary and Junior High School, initial contribution of 50 bags of cement and 25 pieces of steel rod for the Jarkai Elementary School etc.
Some of his intervention to health, Rep. Womba noted include the donation of L$300,000.00 to the midwives of Belefanai, Naama, Gbalatuah and Shankpali catchment centers for basic vocational skill training and L$90,000.00 to the midwives of Belemue.
He thanked Deputy Speaker Prince Moye, Bong Caucus Chairman, Senator Henry Yallah, Rep, Moima Briggs Mensah, Rep. Albert B. Hills for their respective contributions to his numerous development initiatives.
For lawmaking, he, among other things, disclosed that the House of Representatives in its first session had 121 sittings, passed 34 bills and resolutions.
The event attracted local and legislative officials of the county including Senators Henry Yallah and Henrique Tokpah who called for unity and mutual respect among caucus members and the citizens.
Margibi County Senator Rev. Dr. Jim Tonolah was also in attendance.
Meanwhile, the residents, including chiefs, elders and youth thanked Rep. Womba for his numerous development initiatives within a short period of time and pledged their cooperation to him.
According to the citizens, Rep Womba is the first lawmaker from the district to present to them a legislative report.
