Monrovia – The President of Afalit International Dr. Joseph Milton says his organization is in Liberia to serve humanity. He made the statement when he pay visit on Vice President Joseph Boakai as part of his 10-day visit to Liberia.

In the meeting, the Vice President committed his office and the government of Liberia to helping the organization achieve in its effort to provide education for people who are adult literate.
During the meeting, held at his Capitol Building office, the visiting Alfalit President disclosed his organization’s commitment in serving humanity, specifically in the area of education.
Dr. Milton is also in Liberia as part of the thanksgiving celebration for Alfalit’s 10 years of dedicated service to youth and adult literacy education in Liberia since 2006.
In the meeting Vice President Boakai, promised to write the United States Embassy for assistance to the Alfalit program in response to a request made by Dr. Milton.
While in Liberia, the Alfalit boss will offer more support to the Liberia-Ghana Missions and Alfalit Liberia, review and assess the current programs and status of the two organizations’ impact in its support to education and adult literacy in Liberia and as well strengthen commitment and renew friendship and remain engaged in buttressing the Government of Liberia’s education drive.
Rev. Emmanuel Giddings, Alfalit country director, disclosed that the United States Embassy in Monrovia, USAID Mission Director including visits to at least five of Alfalit Liberia literacy centers and L-GM partners’ institutions and adopted schools in and out of Monrovia are all part of Dr. Milton visit.
Giddings furthered that Milton would also pay a special visit at the National Governors Council of Liberia’s head office at the old Housing Bank building down Waterside in Central Monrovia and lastly meet with the Women in Peace Building Network at Fish Market, Tubman Boulevard in Monrovia.
Giddings said: “The visit of Dr. Milton is special and Alfalit Liberia attaches more importance to this, especially reaching 10 consecutive years of committed or dedicated support to youths and adult education in Liberia.
“We are committed to this cost and we want to reassure the Liberia people that Alfalit Liberia is here to stay and is going nowhere.
“Alfalit Liberia is inviting people from the government, embassies the private sector and as well our partners’ institution and adopted school who can tell the impact of what the institution has been doing in Liberia.”
Alfalit Liberia is the biggest literacy movement in Liberia, an NGO that provides community and human development services including literacy and Numeracy as well as job skills for its thousands of Liberians.
Alfalit Liberia currently has 83 functional literacy centers in five counties with over 6,444 beneficiaries in its five operating counties –Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Bong, Bomi and Margibi Counties as of 2016.
It was established in Liberia in 2006 under the Liberian law and has since been duly accredited.
The institution is an affiliate of Alfalit International with head office in USA, a parent international organization that has been in existence since 1961.
As a grass root literacy movement, Alfalit works directly with community leaderships for the recruitment of its program beneficiaries, which includes illiterate and semi-illiterate citizens, mainly women.
