Wayzohn, Grand Bassa County – A daughter of Grand Bassa who resides in the United States of America on Friday, December 13,2018 surprised Wayzohn City with the first biggest donation since it was established in 2017.
Madam Magdalene Harris, President Janjay Village of Hope, presented to the City of Wayzohn 10 shovels, 10 whippers, 4 wheel barrows, 10 rakes and 10 bags of 25kg rice.
Other items donated to the city are, 50 working uniforms, 13 pairs of rain boots, 1 laptop computer, 50 pieces of Wayzohn City calendar and L$20,000 as an initial contribution to the city.
Madam Harris told FrontPage Africa that her gesture is intended to change the look of the newest city of the county.
“I am here to help because I feel that this is the only home I have. I know that one day I will leave the United States and come home, because of that my heart grieves when I see my brothers and sisters struggling,” she said.
“I know this is not much but it’s a way of starting. We will do more but it’s better to start from somewhere. I know the challenges are much for this new city but God will intervene”.
Edwin Weljay, Mayor of Wayzohn City, overwhelmingly received the gifts presented to the city.
According to him, the gesture by Madam Harris was the first of its kind since he took over as mayor of the city, describing it as timely.
“Our workers have been struggling to work but I want to whole heartily appreciate Madam Magdalene Harris and family for jumping over Monrovia City, Buchanan City and coming to Wayzohn city to help us,” Weljay asserted.
“I was thinking how we could get food for our workers this Christmas but God has blessed us through you to provide for them, God is going to bless you”.
Mayor Weljay assured Madam Harris that the items donated will be used for the purpose intended.
Marpue Kpue, a community dweller, also mentioned that it was her first time to see a non-political person to make such a huge donation.
“For me I want to say thanks to Madam Harris for bringing beauty to our city. When I saw the City uniforms I immediately decided to voluntarily join the city worker,” she added.
Alphanso James, an elder of the city, said he expects more good things to come to the city, stating that ” When the Christmas will be good, you will know from the beginning “.
