Monrovia – Liberian Women Forum is appalled by the heightening rate of rape cases reported in recent time.
Last week, it was reported that three fully-grown men allegedly gang-raped a 13-year-old girl in Maryland County. The minor reportedly died after the incident.
The suspects were identified as Alphonso Gaysu, 35, Geekor Matue, 20, and Junior, 30, allegedly committed the crime on June 28, 2018
Unfortunately, the alleged perpetrators who raped this innocent 13-year-old are yet to be apprehended by the police in the county. The Liberian Women Forum is watching keenly on how this case would be handled.
In a statement signed by its president, Mrs. Kadi C. Porte, the Liberian Women Forum says it is also concerned about the report of a government official, Moseray Momoh, Deputy Managing Director of the Liberia Water & Sewer Corporation alleged sexual exploitation of a 31-year-old woman, who was only seeking a job for survival.
The Liberian Women Forum condemns in the strongest terms this allegation and calls for an urgent and speedy investigation.
“We call on President George Manneh Weah to ensure that this allegation involving an official of his government is investigated.”
“We also call on the President to temporarily suspend Mr. Momoh while investigation into the matter is ongoing,” the statement noted.
The woman advocacy group is also calling on the wife of Momoh to take this matter seriously with her husband. The group also wants every female employee of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation who had fallen victim to Momoh to come forward and their identities would be protected.
Having come a long way in solidifying our peace and democracy, we must not forget to also strengthen our judicial system to ensure that every Liberian would receive justice, irrespective of status in society or political affiliation.
