Liberia: Boakai Shuffles Cabinet: New Acting Defense, Commerce Ministers; Gender Deputy Suspended

Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has shaken up several government ministries and agencies, announcing a wave of new appointments this week.

Cllr. Oswald Natu Tweh takes over as Acting Minister of National Defense, stepping in for Geraldine J. George. Over at Commerce and Industry, Stephen Marka Yekeson Jr. steps into the acting minister role, replacing Magdalene E. Dagoseh. Both George and Dagoseh will be reassigned to other government positions.

The president also tapped Christopher Ben Bailey to serve as Acting Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County. At the National Food Assistance Agency, Mike Khailelu B. Jabateh moves into the role of Acting Deputy Director General for Publicity.

In another appointment, Daniel Frank Gould II has been named to the Board of Commissioners of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission, though his nomination still needs Senate confirmation.

On the disciplinary side, Frederick S. Cooper, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has been suspended for 60 days without pay. The Executive Mansion says the move stems from conduct it considers incompatible with Cooper’s role as a public official.

Boakai used the moment to send a broader message to his administration, warning officials that public office comes with real accountability — and that conduct undermining government integrity or public trust won’t be tolerated.
