Liberia: After Two Seasons Without a Sponsor, LFA Unveils US$150,000 Support Package for Clubs

MONROVIA — Following two consecutive seasons of operating domestic league competitions without a primary sponsor, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has approved a US$150,000 financial relief package for clubs competing across the country’s six divisions.

The framework, dated August 28, 2026, and signed by LFA Secretary General Emmett Crayton, provides direct financial assistance to teams in the Men’s and Women’s First, Second, and Third Divisions ahead of the new campaign.

Under the approved plan, the Men’s First Division receives the largest allocation at US49,500 representing 33 percent of the total fund. The Women’s First Division follows with US 31,500, while the Men’s Second Division receives US33,000.

The Women’s Second Division gets US 16,500, while the Men’s and Women’s Third Divisions have been allocated US15,000 andUS4,500, respectively.

Two-Part Distribution Formula

For the top four divisions, the LFA’s model combines guaranteed base funding with performance-based incentives:

According  to a communication to the club from the LFA there will be a 40% Base Allocation which will be Shared equally among all participating clubs in a division, ensuring every team receives a baseline payment regardless of final placement.

Also 60% Performance Allocation will be distributed among non-champions according to their final league standings, with higher-placed teams receiving larger sums.

The football house says the League champions will not have a share in the performance pool, as they are designated to receive separate championship prize packages outside the US$150,000 fund.

Division Breakdown

In the Men’s First Division, all 18 clubs  are expected to receive a guaranteed base payment of US1,100. The second−placed team takes home the highest overall payout among non−champions at US9,734.60 (comprising the US1,100 base plus US 8,634.60 in performance money). Payouts gradually decrease down the table, with the 18^th-placed team receiving US$1,608.20.

In the 14-team Women’s First Division, each club receives a US 900 base payment. The-runner−up earns US 6,843, while third and fourth place receive US 3,871.80 and US2,881.20, respectively, down to US$1,357.20 for the 14^th-placed club.

In the Men’s Second Division, 18 clubs will share US33,000,with a base pay out of US 733.33 per team and US 6,489.73 for the runner−up.

The Women’s Second Division sees 12 clubs split US 16,500, offering a US 550 base payment and US 3,828.40 for second place.

Third Division County Framework

Unlike the higher tiers, the Third Division distribution relies on county championship status rather than national table standings. The 15 county champions in the Men’s Third Division will each receive US1,000, while the ninec ounty champions in the Women’s Third Division will receive US 500 each.

The intervention provides critical financial relief to local clubs that have absorbed significant operating costs during the two-year sponsorship drought.
