MONROVIA — The Grand Kru Sports Steering Committee has reappointed experienced football tactician Emmanuel “Emo” Kehkeh as head coach of the county’s men’s football team ahead of the 2026 National County Sports Meet.

The decision comes immediately on the heels of a major ruling by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Grievance and Disciplinary Committee (GDC), which officially rescinded a five-year ban previously handed to the coach and cleared him of match manipulation charges.
With his suspension set aside, Kehkeh returns to lead Grand Kru in their preparations for the tournament scheduled for November, providing much-needed technical continuity to the squad.
Full Exoneration Clears Path for Return
Kehkeh’s path back to the Grand Kru bench was cleared after the LFA GDC completed a thorough re-evaluation of evidence connected to an alleged match of convenience between Margibi County and Grand Kru County at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex during the 2025/2026 tournament.
The GDC had initially handed down five-year suspensions on July 1 against several individuals, including Kehkeh and Margibi County head coach S. Warmann Yeafapolee, citing violations of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
However, upon reviewing intercepted cell phone records and additional communications, the disciplinary body established that while Kehkeh was informed of an arrangement to fix the match, he explicitly opposed it.
“After a careful review of the evidence produced indicating that Coach Kehkeh did inform other people through cell phone communication about playing of a match of convenience/manipulation, that he was strongly against,” the GDC noted in its final ruling.
The committee subsequently ordered his suspension lifted in a July 18 communication to LFA Secretary General Emmet Crayton, signed by GDC Co-Chairman Jenkins D. N. Pelenah Sr., fully reinstating Kehkeh’s eligibility to take charge of football activities.
Background to the Appointment
Kehkeh previously guided Grand Kru during the last edition of the County Sports Meet, earning a reputation within the county administration for tactical discipline and squad organization and guided the team to the final but lost to Nimba County.
When the Grand Kru Sports Steering Committee met to finalize its technical leadership for 2026, the administration chose to stand by Kehkeh, citing both his familiar knowledge of local players and his proven resistance to corruption during the LFA inquiry.
Rather than starting from scratch, Kehkeh now assumes full responsibility for technical preparations, player recruitment, and match planning.
His immediate priority will be screening emerging local talent alongside experienced players to build a competitive squad ahead of November’s kickoff.
“Joining Grand Kru again is a commitment to the people of the county,” Kehkeh said following the confirmation of his role. “With our name cleared and our focus restored, the objective is to build a disciplined, hardworking team that can compete for the title.”
