Liberia: Speaker of House of Representatives’ Office Restricted to Only VIPs

Monrovia – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bhofal Chambers, once revered as the ‘man of the people’ and highly hailed for his grassroot ideologies but the Speaker seems to no longer ascribe to those ideals as he restricts the caliber of people who visit his office.

Unlike when he was just a representative, the Speaker now has on his office door, “Restricted!!! VIPs and Honorables only”.

The Speaker stands criticized by members of his constituents in Pleebo, Maryland County, that he is yet to visit the County since he won the election in 2017 and his ascendancy to the nation’s third most powerful position.

Members of his constituents say they are disappointed and already feeling early signs of abandonment by their representative who ably represented them and ensured their voices were heard on the national scene.

Chambers, from the observers’ perspective, is yet to fully understand legislative proceedings and properly preside over the House proceedings, despite his presence at the Capitol over the past 12 years.
