MONROVIA – More than 250 women in Dewein District, Bomi County have graduated from a Quick Impact Skills Training Program, marking a significant step toward economic empowerment and self-reliance for women in the district.
The graduation ceremony was highlighted by the presence of Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority (LPRA) Director General Marlin T. Logan, who served as the special guest speaker and inspired participants with a message centered on determination, hard work and dignity.
Speaking from personal experience, Director General Logan told the graduates that success is not determined by where one studies but by how the knowledge acquired is applied.
She urged the women to put their newly acquired skills into practice and begin building small businesses capable of improving their livelihoods and supporting their families.
“The difference between the woman who succeeds and the woman who fails is not the type of school she attended. It is what she does after leaving school. I want you to go home and start something small,” Director General Logan said.
To demonstrate her commitment to the graduates’ success, Director General Logan announced a donation of L$1 million to help the women launch income-generating activities and transform their vocational training into sustainable businesses.
The training program, funded by Bomi County District #3 Representative Sam P. Jallah, provided participants with practical skills in soap making, baking, event decoration and other vocational trades.
Director General Logan praised Representative Jallah for investing in the empowerment of women, describing the initiative as an example of effective public service and community leadership.
The graduates expressed appreciation for the opportunity and pledged to use their newly acquired skills to increase their incomes, strengthen their independence, and improve their living conditions.
In recognition of her support, encouragement and financial contribution, the women honored Director General Logan with the traditional title: “Ma Kemah,” meaning “The First to Come,” symbolizing a leader who stood with them and provided assistance when it was most needed.
The program is expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of the graduates by equipping them with practical skills and resources to create businesses, generate income and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
