Maryland— A leadership dispute has emerged within the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) in Maryland County over who is the legitimate county coordinator, just as Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, Minister of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, prepares for an official visit to the county.

Boniface Nyemah, a representative of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights in Maryland County, claims he remains the legitimate FLY coordinator pending a proper electoral process.
“I am the legitimate coordinator of FLY until we can conduct a legitimate process that can bring forth a proper leadership,” Nyemah asserted in an interview with FrontPage Africa(FPA) Tuesday morning.
“There were no elections conducted. They made an attempt to conduct an illegal elections that wasn’t in line with our FLY constitution, so as a result, they were chased by the same young people and the process was erupted,” he alleged.
Nyemah further claimed that delegates from Monrovia failed to properly conduct the process, adding that the disputed election was later nullified. He also accused others of attempting to hijack the leadership position ahead of the Minister’s visit.
“They are illegally trying to hijack the leadership position and the activities. But as we speak, the Minister is on her way to the county. I am in touch with the Minister, and we are planning the activities,” he said.
However, when asked to provide a copy of the alleged resolution nullifying the election, Nyemah admitted he did not have it in his possession.
Meanwhile, embattled FLY Coordinator Victor Williams rejected Nyemah’s claims, insisting that a peaceful and legitimate election was conducted in June 2025 at the Pleebo City Hall under the supervision of the national leadership of FLY.
“We had a very peaceful elections that required 15 delegates in June 2025. Of the 15 delegates, 10 participated and we obtained 9 votes,” Williams explained in a separate interview with FPA Tuesday morning.
It can be recalled that on December 1, 2025, the Federation of Liberian Youth, through its official Facebook page, recognized Victor Williams as Maryland County Coordinator and congratulated him on his successful graduation from Tubman University, highlighting both his academic achievement and leadership milestone.
Williams warned that any attempt to recognize Nyemah as coordinator would be resisted.
“Any attempt to recognize him as coordinator will not be accepted and will be resisted. He has relinquished power. Any attempt to do that will undermine the power of the young people decision,” Williams added.
Amid the growing tension, Reuben Sieh Freeman, Maryland County Coordinator for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, called for calm and urged both parties to resolve their differences internally.
“FLY disagreement should be settled internally. Minister tour is not about FLY. FLY can be rooted out because of any misconduct,” Freeman warned early Tuesday morning.
Observers and youth stakeholders in Maryland County are calling for immediate intervention to prevent the dispute from escalating ahead of Minister Kruah’s visit.
The dispute comes at a critical time as youth leaders in Maryland County prepare to receive Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, raising concerns that the leadership wrangling could overshadow the Minister’s planned activities in the county.
