The President of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA), Cllr Bornor Varmah, has finally resigned as President of the LNBA, ending controversies surrounding his commitment to hold onto power, despite being commissioned as Chairperson of the Law Reform Commission (LRC).

He announced his departure during a press conference held at the LNBA’s National Headquarters on Ashmun Street, Monrovia.
Recounting his commitment to resign, Cllr. Varmah explained that on December 6, 2025, during the National Convention in Ganta, Nimba County, he made a solemn declaration before the full membership of the LNBA that, upon his commissioning by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai as Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Law Reform Commission (IRC), he would respectfully resign as National President of the LNBA.
“I hereby formally fulfil that declaration,” Cllr. Varmah, he stressed. According to Cllr. Varmah, on January 20, 2025, he was commissioned by the President to serve as Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Law Reform Commission, narrating that I officially took over the Commission on January 23, 2025.”
He pointed out that this national responsibility places upon him a solemn duty that requires undivided attention, strategic focus, and sustained institutional leadership.
“The Law Reform Commission is a demand-driven national institution charged with the continuous review, modernization, harmonization, and reform of Liberia’s laws,” he stated.
He said that this critical stage in the country’s legal and governance development, the work of the Commission requires his full concentration and impartial stewardship.
“It is therefore in keeping with my word, and in the interest of institutional integrity, that I respectfully resign as National President of the Liberian National Bar Association, effective immediately,” Cllr. Varmah emphasized.
He accentuated that this decision is not one of separation from the Bar in spirit, but rather a reaffirmation of his enduring commitment to the rule of law and the advancement of the Justice system, now through a different national mandate.
” I remain a proud member of the LNBA and will continue to collaborate constructively with the Association in strengthening legal reform, professional standards, and access to Justice in Liberia,” he asserted.
He, however, extended his deepest gratitude to the National Executive Council, the County Bar Associations, his learned colleagues across the country, and the entire membership for the confidence reposed in him to serve as the 18th National President of the prestigious Liberian National Bar Association.
“The collective strides we have made together will remain a source of pride, he said, adding that may the Liberian National Bar Association continue to stand as the guardian of professional integrity, defender of constitutional order, and champion of justice.”
