Monrovia- The Ministry of National Defense has reiterated its call for the immediate evacuation of all illegal occupants from Camp Ramrod Military Barracks, widely known as the 72nd Barracks.

In a statement issued, the Ministry emphasized: “The Ministry encourages civilians who are currently within and around the barracks unlawfully to respectfully but firmly evacuate the barracks within a period of fourteen (14) days as of Monday, January 19, 2026.”
Assistant Minister for Public Affairs, Oscar F. Mulbah said, “The 72nd Military Barracks and all other restricted military zones are not designated for civilian residence or activities. Continued presence may place civilians at risk and interfere with essential operations.”
Authorities disclosed that during the voluntary evacuation period, the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Engineering Battalion will begin erecting physical barricades to demarcate the property.
The Ministry assured the public that “no personal belongings will be confiscated during the evacuation and that no action will be taken against those who comply promptly and peacefully.”
Camp Ramrod has been occupied illegally since the Liberian Civil War, with repeated efforts to reclaim the property proving unsuccessful. The Ministry noted that the continued occupation has “constrained the AFL’s ability to rehabilitate the facility and undermined efforts to expand accommodation for newly recruited personnel and operational units.”
Officials highlighted that despite multiple engagements since 2024 and a formal four-month notice issued in May 2025, squatters remain on the premises.
The Ministry underscored the strategic importance of the barracks, stating: “Camp Ramrod Military Barracks, also referenced as the 72nd Barracks, is strategic to Liberia’s national security in providing rapid response to queer down any uprising/chaos that would require the deployment of the Armed Forces of Liberia on the northwestern flank of Monrovia.”
It further revealed that of the thirty-seven (37) acres of land currently occupied, only thirteen (13) acres remain under AFL control, earmarked for renovations.
