Liberia: Fire Erupts at Ex-President Weah’s Home, Bedroom Severely Damaged — Says CDC Chairman

Monrovia – A fire at former President George Weah’s residence on 9th Street, Sinkor, has severely damaged his bedroom, according to Janga Kowo, Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

Kowo said while firefighters responded quickly, the cause of the fire remains unknown. “We were notified of a fire incident in the bedroom of the former president. We are trying to find out exactly what happened, but it is very concerning. There appears to be massive destruction in the bedroom, but the former president is safe,” Kowo told FrontPage Africa.

Reporters on the scene said fire service personnel arrived with firetrucks, while journalists and bystanders were kept out of the compound.

Weah, who returned to Liberia on Monday to a jubilant welcome from supporters, had lived in his Rehab community home during his six years in office. He relocated to his 9th Street residence following his 2023 election loss.
