Liberia: NCHE Temporarily Lifts Suspension on AVEEM University College

In a statement, Rev. Dr. Nagbe expressed gratitude to the NCHE for acknowledging the corrective measures implemented by the university and for granting the institution an opportunity to continue serving its students.

Monrovia – The National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) has announced the temporary lifting of the suspension earlier imposed on AVEEM University College, allowing the institution to resume academic and administrative operations under strict provisional supervision.

In a communication dated September 16, 2025, and signed by NCHE Executive Director, Prof. Edward Lama Wonkeryor, the Commission said the decision followed a recent reassessment exercise and review of AVEEM’s compliance with key recommendations issued after deficiencies were earlier flagged.

According to the NCHE, AVEEM demonstrated improvements in addressing those shortcomings, prompting the Commission to grant a temporary reprieve. However, Prof. Wonkeryor cautioned that the lifting of the suspension is conditional and contingent on continued adherence to NCHE’s standards and the timely implementation of all remaining recommendations.

“The Commission will maintain periodic monitoring of AVEEM University College to ensure sustained compliance,” Prof. Wonkeryor emphasized, noting that a final determination on full reinstatement will follow the next comprehensive evaluation.

The NCHE urged the institution’s administration to remain committed to upholding quality assurance in higher education delivery in Liberia.

AVEEM University College Welcomes Temporary Lifting of Suspension

Meanwhile, the administration of the AVEEM University College, through its President Dr. Rev. Dr. Benedict Theophilus Nagbe, has welcomed NCHE’s decision to temporarily lift the suspension previously imposed on the institution. The move allows AVEEM University College to resume academic and administrative operations under the supervision of the Commission.

In a statement, Rev. Dr. Nagbe expressed gratitude to the NCHE for acknowledging the corrective measures implemented by the university and for granting the institution an opportunity to continue serving its students.

“This important step allows us to resume our academic and administrative operations under the supervision of the NCHE,” he said, emphasizing the university’s commitment to fully meet and exceed all standards set by the Commission.

The AVEEM University College president reassured students, faculty, partners, and the general public that the institution will continue to uphold the highest standards of quality education, strengthen internal systems, and work diligently until the suspension is fully lifted.

Rev. Dr. Nagbe added that the university, together with its dedicated staff and faculty, remains focused on building a strong and trusted institution that serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity for Liberia’s future leaders.

The statement concluded with a message of appreciation to all stakeholders for their trust, patience, and continued support during the period of suspension.
