These supplies are set to be distributed across various health facilities within the county’s eleven health districts, enhancing healthcare services for the local population.

The donation, according to Senator Kogar, was generously provided by Senator Saah Joseph of Montserrado County. Senator Kogar explained that this contribution, which also included a cash component, was part of Senator Joseph’s campaign support to him during his election campaign in Nimba County.

This marks the second donation Senator Kogar has received from Senator Joseph.

Clarifying misinformation circulating on social media, Senator Kogar affirmed that Vice President Jeremiah Koung has no involvement with the donation.

He emphasized that any rumors linking Vice President Koung to the distribution of these medical supplies are unfounded. The Senator described the donation as a fulfillment of his campaign promise to support the healthcare infrastructure in Nimba County.

“These medical supplies and equipment are intended for distribution to all health facilities in the 19 administrative districts across the county. It is crucial that the benefits of this donation reach every corner of Nimba to positively impact the lives of our citizens,” Senator Kogar urged during the handover ceremony.

In addition to the donation, Senator Kogar called on the Nimba County Health Team to collaborate closely with the ArcelorMittal Hospital located in Yekepa.

He acknowledged that while the hospital is operational, it suffers from a shortage of manpower and requires continued support.

Expressing gratitude for the donation, Dr. Ponnie Robertlee Dolo, head of the Nimba County Health Team, described the contribution as “timely and invaluable.” Dr. Dolo revealed that the county is home to over 650,000 people served by 89 health facilities including six hospitals.

He highlighted the ongoing need to improve healthcare infrastructure and increase the county’s health budget.

Dr. Dolo also provided insights into the county’s health financing. He reported that the Nimba County Administration allocates $80,000 from its Social Development Fund to support the health team annually. Meanwhile, the national government provides approximately US$140 million in budget allocations.

Dr. Dolo noted a concern with budget distribution, emphasizing that small counties with lower populations often receive similar budget allocations to more populous counties, which may impact resources.

The US$80,000 from the county’s social development fund is earmarked to complete 22 waiting rooms for pregnant women across the county, while the national government funding will support other developmental activities within the health sector.

Several members of the Nimba County Health Team, including Karntay Deemie, Clinical Health Services Director, Alex Lawah Gban and Dr. Menlee Gboo, joined Dr. Dolo in thanking Senator  Kogar for his commitment to improving healthcare in Nimba County. They expressed optimism that the donation would strengthen healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes in the region.

The substantial contribution of medical supplies and ongoing support reflect a vital partnership aimed at uplifting the healthcare system in Nimba County, ensuring better access and quality of care for its residents.
