The celebration of a colorful golden jubilee by the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) has a lasting impact on the corporation’s workforce and its beneficiaries because the institution stands as an emulative symbol of Liberia’s commitment to social protection and national development. Historically, NASSCORP was established on July 10, 1975, through an Act of the Legislature. NASSCORP has received institutional transformation from a modest welfare agency into an institutionalized and vibrant corporation that supports economic resilience, healthcare innovation, and retirement security.
Our country’ remarkable history cannot be overly unique without mentioning the well-experienced Changemaker, Dewitt vonBallmoos, Director General at NASSCORP who is presently at the helm of leadership. Since March 2013-present, NASSCORP has been rebranded by institutional reforms, strategic investments, and a beneficiaries-friendly drive to modernize Liberia’s social security system.
Institutional Mandate and Schemes
NASSCORP administers three core programs:
- Employment Injury Scheme (EIS): Provides medical and income benefits for workers injured on the job.
- National Pension Scheme (NPS): Offers retirement and survivor benefits to insured employees and their dependents.
- Welfare Scheme (WS): Supports vulnerable populations through targeted interventions.
