MONROVIA – Liberian defender Sampson Dweh was instrumental as FC Viktoria Plzeň secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League, sealing their spot with a commanding 4-1 victory over Jablonec on the final day of the 2024/25 Czech Chance Liga season.
Dweh, a key figure in Plzeň’s defense all season, capped his performance by netting the team’s third goal — his fifth across all competitions this season in his 53rd appearance. His consistent displays have earned him widespread acclaim among fans and analysts alike.
Viktoria Plzeň’s second-place finish in the Czech league’s championship group guarantees them a place in the Champions League qualification rounds, where they will aim to advance to the lucrative group stage.
With Dweh’s qualification, Liberia will be represented by at least three players in Europe’s premier club competition. Alongside Dweh are Murphy Oscar Dorley and Divine Teah, a midfielder for reigning Czech champions Slavia Prague, who also earned a Champions League qualification spot this season.
This growing Liberian presence on the European stage highlights the rising talent emerging from the West African nation. Fans across Liberia will be eagerly watching as their stars aim to lead their clubs deep into the Champions League tournament.
The qualification rounds begin later this summer, marking an exciting chapter for Liberian football as its players showcase their skills in one of the world’s most prestigious competitions.
