Thousands of supporters, including 21 members of the MDR National Executive Committee, gathered on Saturday to endorse Representative Kogar, a former member of the People’s Unification Party (PUP) who has now joined the MDR.

MDR’s Decision to Endorse Kogar

Reading the endorsement statement, MDR Vice Chairman Kelvin D.J. Msttadi stated that the party’s decision was based on a formal request from Representative Kogar, along with an evaluation of his track record.

He explained that MDR executives and partisans carefully assessed Kogar’s leadership and performance before making the decision.

MDR Chairman Calls for Unity

Addressing partisans, MDR National Chairman Cllr. Cooper Kruah called on Nimbaians, including representatives from all nine electoral districts, to unite and actively support the party’s candidate.

He emphasized that despite the passing of MDR founder and former Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, the party remains strong and should not allow an outsider to take his place.

“The MDR Party belongs to Nimba. We must stand together and speak with one voice. This by-election is about continuing the legacy of the late Senator Prince Johnson. Some people are pushing our brothers and sisters to run against us, trying to divide the votes that belong to the MDR Party. We must not allow this to happen,” Chairman Kruah stated.

He urged all Nimbaians to remain loyal to the MDR, adding that those considering independent runs should abandon their ambitions in favor of the party’s chosen candidate.

Samuel Kogar Pledges to Strengthen MDR

In response, Representative Samuel Kogar expressed gratitude to MDR partisans and the people of Nimba for their overwhelming support.

He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting unity within the party and vowed to recruit more lawmakers from the county, including members of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), to strengthen MDR’s influence.

According to Kogar, the MDR is at a critical juncture and requires the collective effort of all Nimbaians to remain strong.

He also urged voters to elect leaders based on their ability to address the needs of the people, rather than personal popularity or appearance.

“We have the ability to represent the people of Nimba County. Do not let the dream of the late Senator Prince Johnson fade. Let’s work together to achieve his vision,” he said.

Representative Kogar pledged to uphold Senator Johnson’s legacy and ensure that MDR remains a dominant political force in Nimba County.
