Liberia: LNP Dismisses Officer, Suspends Two for Corruption and Misconduct

Monrovia-The Liberia National Police (LNP), has taken action against three officers following an investigation into corruption and abuse of authority within its ranks.

A statement issued by the LNP noted, that the move underscores the LNP’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability.

The investigation was initiated after an encounter on January 17, between Inspector General of Police Gregory O.W. Coleman, and a highway patrol team in Bong County.

Reports indicated that several officers were soliciting bribes from drivers.

As a result of the investigation, the police has dismissed Sgt. Musa V. Sheriff (ID #2248):, who was serving as the team leader.

The sheriff has been dismissed from the LNP service after being found guilty of corruption, neglect of duty, and bridge of police regulations on discipline and professional standards.

Ar the same time, Patrol Man Julius Reeves (ID #1733), of the Police Support Unit officer, has been suspended for four months without pay due to his involvement in unethical behavior and neglect of duty.

Similarly, Patrol Man Erasmus K. Jallah (ID #6613), who was the driver of the patrol vehicle associated with the act has received a three-month suspension without pay for his participation in the misconduct.

The three officers have been requested to return all Government of Liberia (GoL) properties in their possession, including uniforms, belts, shoes, and badges, to the Human Resources Division of the LNP.

In a related action, the LNP has confirmed the confiscation of 36,000 Liberian Dollars from the officers involved in the bribery.

This amount has been deposited into the Government coffers at the Central Bank of Liberia, with documentation of the deposit attached.

The LNP used the release to reiterate its commitment to upholding high standards of integrity and accountability within its ranks, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated.

This incident, according to the police, serves as a reminder of the LNP’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and restore public trust in law enforcement.

Meanwhile, the LNP has expressed its commitment to continue encouraging the public to report any instances of unethical behavior among its officers.
