Liberia: Second Lady Advocates for Sustainability at Johnsonville Youth Summit

The event brought together young leaders and community stakeholders to discuss pressing challenges and explore actionable solutions for a more sustainable Johnsonville.

Johnsonville – The Second Lady of Liberia, Madam Snyleseh Stephenie Dahn-Koung, has reiterated her commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development during the Johnsonville Youth Summit held on November 15.

Represented by her Senior Administrative Assistant, Mr. Raymond Kolubah Zarbay, Madam Dahn-Koung inspired attendees with a message of hope, resilience, and action under the summit’s theme, “Sustainable Solutions: Creating a Greener Tomorrow.”

The event brought together young leaders and community stakeholders to discuss pressing challenges and explore actionable solutions for a more sustainable Johnsonville.

A Vision for Sustainability

In her address, Madam Dahn-Koung highlighted the vital role of youth in driving positive change. She urged participants to reflect on the community’s challenges, including illicit drug use, pollution, and poor waste management, and to envision a brighter, sustainable future for Johnsonville.

“Reflecting on your past, it is crucial to acknowledge that Johnsonville has faced numerous challenges,” said Mr. Zarbay, quoting Madam Dahn-Koung. “Yet, it is your resilience and forward-thinking mindset that will guide you toward a more sustainable future. Together, you can transform challenges into opportunities for growth.”

The Second Lady called for stricter enforcement of drug laws and comprehensive awareness campaigns to combat illicit drug use among youth. She also emphasized the need for improved waste management and pollution control to create a healthier environment.

Building Knowledge and Inclusivity

Madam Dahn-Koung advocated for investment in education, particularly the construction of libraries and disabled-friendly educational facilities. She stressed the importance of empowering youth with access to knowledge and creating public spaces for dialogue on sustainability.

“When every voice is heard, amplified, and valued, you create a vibrant variety of ideas that enriches your community vision,” she said.

Call to Action

The address ended with a powerful call for young people to take an active role in governance and advocacy for eco-friendly policies. “You hold the power to create the future you predict,” said Mr. Zarbay on behalf of Madam Dahn-Koung. “By committing to solutions that respect and honor your environment, you can collectively build a sustainable Johnsonville.”

Next Steps

As the summit concluded, participants were urged to celebrate their progress and commit to collaborative efforts that will position Johnsonville as a model of sustainability. Madam Dahn-Koung congratulated the organizers for hosting the summit and encouraged ongoing dialogue and action within the community.

The Second Lady’s message of hope and determination resonated deeply with attendees, reaffirming her dedication to building a united and sustainable Liberia.
