The one-day gathering, attended by LFMW staff, aimed to refine key policies essential for the organization’s mission.
The policy review was supported by the European Union through the French Development Agency and included expert guidance from Dayugar Johnson, a consultant and new board member for LFMW.
Johnson’s involvement stems from a needs assessment conducted in 2022, also supported by the EU and Tropenbos International.
The newly adopted policy document addresses crucial issues, including financial management practices, conflict of interest, and gender equality, among other areas.
LFMW Team Leader Paul Kanneh expressed enthusiasm for the completion of the document, emphasizing its importance in bolstering the organization’s credibility and effectiveness.
“This policy will significantly impact our work as an environmental media institution in Liberia,” Kanneh stated.
Continuing, he stated: “As we hold the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the mining sectors accountable, it’s imperative that we have a guiding document to ensure our operations are transparent and effective.”
He further noted that having a robust policy framework is vital for establishing trust with partners and donors, who often require such documents as part of their collaboration criteria.
The adoption of this Environmental Media Policy marks a pivotal moment for LFMW as it continues to champion environmental protection and accountability in Liberia.
