Weah, who was days ago defeated by Cassell Kouh on the ticket of the Collaborating Football Stakeholders to contest the presidency of the LFA, made the decision Monday, September 9.

The clubs President Association of Liberia consists of Football clubs’ presidents from the First, Second and women’s division respectively.

In a release to members of the Club Presidents Association of Liberia, Weah disclosed that he wants to focus more on the upcoming LFA election that he is hopeful of contesting.

“I have decided to step aside as chairman of CPAL in light of my decision to contest the Liberia Football Association (LFA) 2026 election. This decision comes from a place of deep reflection on what is best for the association and our collective goals.

“In the interest of best practice and to safeguard the integrity of this esteemed organization, I believe it is prudent that we allow the election of new leadership rather than make an appointment, as has been the practice in the past. This ensures transparency and a commitment to the values we all hold dear,” Weah said.

He, however, announced that there will be a general meeting held on October 13, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Mamba Point Hotel in Monrovia.

According to Weah, during the meeting, the body will establish a transitional administration that will be tasked with the creation of election guidelines and the conduct of a free and fair election, in full alignment with the by-laws of CPAL.

“I urge all member clubs to attend this important meeting as we work together to ensure the future of CPAL is transparent and strong.”

Meanwhile his co-chair, Sylvanus Kelvin Morris, has frowned at Weah’s decision to call for a meeting after he announced his resignation.

Morris said Weah doesn’t have the right to call for a meeting after stepping down.

He said after the president resigns or is unable to lead, the next person in line should take his place and run the Association.
