The delegation, which included Cassandra Hampton, CEO of Golden Touch Corporation, and Trade Consultant Ivan Tumbey, engaged with foreign investors to explore opportunities for investment in Liberia’s business sector and to establish local partnerships through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and trade.

During the conference, the Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, expressed keen interest in collaborating with the Liberian delegation.

He assured them of his support for working within the framework of President Joseph Boakai’s “Arrest Agenda” in trade and related areas. Mr. Angubolkul also expressed his desire to meet with the President of Liberia and Vice President Jeremiah Koung to further discuss potential investments in Liberia’s business environment.

The meeting, which was later chaired by Mr. Susheel Kumar Saraff, Advisor to the Board of Trade, focused on evaluating the “Arrest Agenda” and identifying specific areas for partnership. The smaller group discussions were seen as an effective way to fully understand the needs and expectations of each institution involved.

Mr. Jarudol Tulayakijja, a committee member of the Committee of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, emphasized the importance of collaboration.

He recalled the bilateral trade agreements between Liberia and Thailand in the 1980s, which involved commodities such as gold, diamonds, timber, rice, and sugar.

He noted that while trade remains a primary focus for Thai investors, they are open to exploring other opportunities highlighted during the presentations.

Liberia Business Association President James Strother highlighted several sectors in Liberia that are ripe for investment.

“The real estate sector is one of the fastest-growing businesses in Liberia. Additionally, Thailand’s experience with shopping malls could be leveraged in Liberia’s real estate and retail sectors,” Mr. Strother suggested.

Trade Consultant Ivan Tumbey emphasized Liberia’s vast business potential, describing the country as a “virgin” market with a business-friendly environment. “No matter where you choose to invest, the Liberian business sector is open for opportunities,” Tumbey asserted.

Cassandra Hampton, CEO of Golden Touch Corporation, highlighted Liberia’s natural resources, noting that the country boasts the largest forest in the West African sub-region, ideal for agricultural investments.

She also pointed out other promising areas for investment, including forestry, road construction, and the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The discussions in Bangkok signal a potential strengthening of economic ties between Liberia and Thailand, with both sides exploring mutually beneficial investment opportunities.
