The YMCA-Liberia children’s vacation sports program, with support from APM Terminals, is an annual program held for school-going kids during vacation.
Mr. T. Martin Allen, County Coordinator of the Montserrado County YMCA, giving the overview of the program, lauded APM terminals for being its official sponsor over the last three years, ensuring the program running for kids across Montserrado to learn how to play basketball, learn computer, tailoring, and baking.
“In the next few years, we aim to make sure all the kids across Liberia learn a whole lot during the vacation break and also network with their colleagues by establishing friendships which could go a very long way even after the vacation sports program,” he noted.
He also used the occasion to call for the decentralization of the program across montserrado for other kids to be a part of the vacation sports program.
“In the not-too-distant future, we will decentralize the program in a way where kids will not have to come from Marshall or Brewerville just to learn basketball and other things we offer but will rather have a site in their area to ease themselves of the stress coming to town,” Mr. Allen said.
He said the two-month program aims to train kids to play basketball, learn computers, baking, etc.
The Acting National General Secretary of Liberia-YMCA, Yonyee Neaton Kolison, also thanked the participants for participating in the program, adding that since the YMCA came to Liberia, it has been working tirelessly to build the full potential of youths across Liberia.
Speaking on behalf of APM Terminals which is the official sponsor of the YMCA Children Vacation Sports Program this year, Natasha Akakpo
Communication and Project Officer, APM Terminal, said their support of the YMCA children’s vacation sports program is part of its corporate social responsibility as an institution.
“Since 2022, APM Terminals have been providing sets of jerseys every year to the YMCA Children Vacation Sports Program, and this year, we are happy to announce that we have provided 540 sets of jerseys for 45 teams within the program. We are grateful to the YMCA for this sustainable partnership to contribute to the future of Liberia through the kids who are the next future leaders of Liberia,” she said.
