Monrovia – After winning the Montserrado County Districts League in his debut season as coach, Samir Pepper Kamara of District-11 says his sight is now on the national County meet.

Kamara, a former footballer, took charge of his first team in District 11 and didn’t disappoint by delivering the trophy to the people of Barnersville. The District 11 coach took the tournament by surprise with his interviews, dress code, and actions on the touchline.
In one of his many interviews, the former LISCR and BYC player said he came back to Liberia from Cyprus to give back to the game and practice what he learned. The tough-talking Kamara lamented that he will beat all the coaches in Liberia, and he lived up to his word by winning the tournament undefeated after two draws and four wins, conceding only four goals throughout the tournament.
In the final, Kamara’s side, which he named after Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni, had to come from a goal down to force the game to extra time. However, the extra time had to be postponed for four days due to poor weather.
District #11 and Kamara secured the 2023 Montserrado Districts League following a 6-1 victory over District #16 in post-match penalties on Sunday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
Kamara proved his worth, winning the Montserrado District League trophy without tasting defeat, and he could not hide his emotions at becoming a district league champion in just his first season with the district as head coach.
“I am so excited now to be a District League champion,” he said after District #11 received the Montserrado District League trophy. “Words alone cannot express the joy I feel now, and I hope it continues like this,” Kamara added.
He, however, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the people of District #11 for entrusting him to serve as their coach. The District-11 coach, who is studying Sports Administration in Cyprus, dedicated his championship to his late friend, whom he considered a brother, Zue Joel Kollie, alias Tiago Alcatara, 22.
“Lastly, to conclude, I would like to resign my post as Head Coach of District 11 and hopefully return to the National County meet, where I would love to give back to Grand Cape Mount, where I hail from, or Margibi County, for which I played and won the National County meet in 2011/2012, respectively,” Kamara said.
