Timothy Weah, a talented 23-year-old striker, became Juventus’ first summer signing after completing his transfer from French Ligue 1 side Lille. He signed a five-year deal with the Old Lady on July 1, valued at €12 million.
During his prime in the mid-90s, George Weah was one of the greatest strikers, earning prestigious accolades like the Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year in 1995. While the Liberian Leader is currently running for re-election, his recent disclosure of his passion and support for Juventus sparked some discussion due to his historic association with AC Milan.
In response to the fuss caused by his revelation, Weah clarified his stance on the matter, stating that he never attempted to hide his affection for Juventus, even during his time at Milan, which he considered his second football family after Monaco. In an interview with SportWeek via ilBianconero, he shared, “Milan is my second football family after Monaco. But I fell in love with Platini’s Juve and I can’t help it. The father’s dream.”
“I was hoping that the transfer would go through. I knew he was talking to some European clubs, and the fact that he reached an agreement with Juve made me really happy,” Weah added.
The Weah family’s bond with Italy runs deep. “My eldest son George and I often speak to one another in Italian. Timo was born in New York, but he still breathed the Italian air,” President Weah revealed.
Praising his son’s achievements, President Weah commended Timothy’s performance in the American national team. He acknowledged that Timothy is a different player from himself, emphasizing that every player has their unique qualities. Weah expressed confidence in his son’s abilities and character, stating, “He knows how to behave; he’s young, and I know he’ll stand his ground.”
The Weah family is now looking forward to Timothy’s journey with Juventus, and Liberians around the world share in their excitement for this new chapter in the young striker’s career.
