Atty Dorko was speaking in front of a team of CAF medical officers and LFA Medical Committee members at the close of a successful two-day Anti-doping awareness workshop for over 100 stakeholders at Colony Hotel on Wednesday, 19 July.
‘’Thanks to our Executive Committee members and chair of our Medical Committee Dr. John Mulbah, you have the support of the LFA and you can count on the secretariat because the president [Mustapha Raji] wants me to inform you that we’ll get this done to the end.
‘’We look forward to subsequent workshops to train our people on how to compete in football without taking ban or prohibited substances,’’ Atty. Dorko said.
The head of the LFA Secretariat also urged participants to serve as ambassadors for their various clubs following the two-day training.
“The theme of this program is promoting awareness on Anti-doping, so we want you to serve as ambassadors for your various teams. Start the process of informing them about prohibited substances because we want to bring integrity to football by promoting clean football,’’ Atty. Dorko stressed.
The LFA Secretary General sighted the unfortunate situation of Determine Girls’ skipper Margret Steward who unknowingly took a banned substance and failed a doping test in Morocco last year.
“The ramification of being caught taking drugs whether known or unknown is severe.
‘’We had a situation in Morocco with a Determine Girls’ player who was guilty of a banned substance she took unknowingly but following an appeal, her ban was lifted from 2 years to 1 year. Even the doctor who was involved, was banned for four years,’’ Atty. Dorko emphasized.
After the close of the training, over 100 participants received certificate of participation.
