Monrovia’s young Liberian striker, Bryant Farkarlun, has successfully entered Major League Soccer in the United States. Austin FC selected him through the drafting process for players who completed college in the USA. In 2020, Farkarlun left Liberia to pursue college soccer, with support from Ken Sports Management, owned by former Liberian professional player Arnold Kennedy.

Formerly with Monrovia Club Breweries, Farkarlun was chosen as the 5th overall pick by Austin FC. Initially selected alongside center-back Nate Jones, he and the 34th pick were later traded to the Colorado Rapids for the 31st pick and $250k. Subsequently, Austin FC used the 31st overall pick to secure Liberian forward Bryant Farkarlun.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Farkarlun, a gifted player, shed tears upon learning of his selection in the MLS by Austin FC. In August 2023, he graduated with a BSc degree in Psychology from Houston Christian University.
From humble beginnings on the dusty grounds of Liberia, Bryant’s journey to the top flight of American football is a testament to his dedication and talent. He became the first of 16 players brought to the USA by Ken Sports Management to attend college and play football. Farkarlun enjoyed a $50,000 scholarship per year at Houston Christian University.
His MLS entry marks the return of a Liberian player to the league after more than three years. The last Liberian in MLS was Sam Johnson, who played for Real Salt Lake from 2019-20 before moving to Sabah FC.
Arnold Kennedy, expressing his joy on Facebook, highlighted Farkarlun’s success and emphasized the impact on changing perceptions about educated footballers in Liberian culture. Kennedy stated, “Today I’m proud to say Bryant Farkarlun has earned a DEGREE in PSYCHOLOGY that will go with him for the rest of his life. After football, he has something to fall back on.”
During his college years, Farkarlun secured two MVP awards at Houston Christian University over three years. Additionally, he clinched the Philadelphia 2023 County Meet MVP, serving as motivation for other student-athletes and Liberian players alike.
