Monrovia – David Tweh has completed his move from Liberian Champions Barrack Young Controller to Energetik BGU of the Belarusian top league on a one-year contract with an option to extend for another year.

The Liberian attacking midfielder underwent weeks of trial with Vladimir Belyavsky men and impressed the club to reach an agreement with BYC.
A statement from Tweh’s former club reads, “Barrack Young Controller can confirm David Tweh has signed a one-year contract with Energetik BGU of the Belarusian Highest league.”
“Tweh’s transfer was completed on February 25, 2019 after a transfer agreement was reached with Energetik BGU. Congratulations David Tweh.”
The player himself wrote: “I want to thank the president of BYC and all those who have made possible the signing.
“I am very happy, it is a dream come true and I hope to meet all expectations in my professional life.
“To my father and CEO Robert Sirleaf, I appreciate everything you have done for me; without you, my career is nothing. BYC will always be close to my heart.”
He further stated that he will now focus his attention on helping his new club to take them to another level. He said he loves the atmosphere; he feels at home; adding: “I will give my hundred percent to the club.”
According to David, his target is to win trophies with his new teammates and play well in the league where he will be scouted by big clubs.
David will now realize his dream of playing out of Liberia after previous several attempts, which didn’t work out for him.
The chairman of Energtik BGU, Vladimir Pigulevsky said: “We’ve been working for weeks on this. But one of the important aspects was that he David wanted to come here. He made an effort, he was patient and that was a determining factor in signing him.
BYC president Nathaniel Sherman stressed his club had done everything possible to fine the best offers for Tweh in the past two years and it finally came at the right time.
“It is with great pleasure that we – as a team and club – prepare to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in David Tweh,” Sherman said to BYC social media.
“It is no secret that David wanted this move. David was insistent with me, the owners and even his team-mates this was a move he was desperate to make happen.
“I can tell the BYC supporters that we, as a club, have done everything within our means to give all our players the opportunity to play at such level once it is the right offer,” he said in wishing the star all the best in his new home.
FC Energetik-BGU Minsk is a Belarusian football club based in Minsk.
It was founded in 1996 as Zvezda Minsk. BGU is a Russian abbreviation and stands for the Belarusian State University.
Zvezda-VA-BGU made its debut in Premier League in 2002 and played there until 2005. Since 2006 the team plays in the lower leagues. In 2006 Zvezda-BGU reached the semifinal of the Belarusian Cup.
