MONROVIA – The Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) over the weekend at an emergency Executive Committee Meeting resolved through a resolution to make Ambassador Dee Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr. as Political Leader of the Party with immediate effect.
The party in a 20 count resolution said, among other things, that because the Convid-19 pandemic has disrupted global and national social, political and economic activities, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of MOVEE resolved to extend the tenure of all elected officers of the party to a period not less than twelve months and not more than more thirty-six months, until such times conditions are favorable for the conduct of the national convention.
According to the constitution of the party, tenure of all elected officials of the party expired on March 22, 2020 and a National Convention was required to institute new corps of officers, which was not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Amb. Kemayah was elected and inducted on March 22, 2016 as chairman of the party and successfully completed his tenure for four (4) years. The resolution said, “Considering that the National Chairman took government’s assignment to the United Nations in New York, which now makes it difficult for his day to day running of the party,” the resolution reads.
The resolution also separated the office of the chairman from the political leader of the party. “Observing that the positions of National Chairman and Political Leader are two separate roles currently assigned to the Office of the National Chairman thereby making the task cumbersome for single office, the executive committee of the party resolved that Dan Saryee then plays the role as chairman while Amb. Kemeyah ascends as political leader of MOVEE.
The resolution stated in party said, “Now therefore, we the National Executive Committee members of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), having consulted with stakeholders and other key members of the party across the Country, and at a National Executive Committee Meeting hereby resolved on the following:
That the tenure, mandate and authority of all elected officials and National Executive Committee members who are active members and leaders of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE); before the signing of this document, are hereby extended, with immediate effect, for a period not less than one year, but not exceeding thirty six months, until such time when they shall lead the Party for the conduct of National Convention in keeping with Article VII section (g) which states that the NEC shall make decisions in the absence of the National Convention; consistent with the Constitution, Mission, Vision, Core Values, Purposes and Objectives of the party;
That the Vice Chair for Inter-Party, Political and NEC Affairs head a committee of five members, which shall be gender sensitive and constituted by the National Chairman in consultation with the Political Leader, to review (within 45 days), and recommend ways to improve and strengthen MOVEE’s political collaboration or relationship with CDC.
That a Committee of seven (7) members including legal minds, which shall be gender sensitive and constituted by the National Chairman in consultation with the Political Leader, to review (within 120 days) the Constitution of the Party and recommend for amendments, where necessary, to the National Executive Committee for onward consideration and endorsement by the National Convention”.
