Dear Liberians,
I want to congratulate all of you for exercising your most fundamental democratic right – the right to vote. You have shown your commitment to shaping the destiny of our beloved country by participating in the recent legislative and presidential elections. Your voice and vote are the cornerstone of our democracy, and each of you who stepped up to cast your ballot deserves commendation.
However, it has come to my attention that the preliminary pronouncements of the Liberian National Election Commission (NEC) results have necessitated a presidential runoff election. This situation may have ignited emotional tensions, and unfortunately, instances of election-related violence have been reported in some parts of our country. This is deeply concerning, and I pray each of you to remember that, at the core of our nation, we are one people bound together by our shared history, culture, and aspirations for a brighter future.
In these times of uncertainty, I urge you all to remain calm, patient, and respectful towards each other. Democracy is a process that requires time, understanding, and, above all, peace. It is important to remember that these elections aim to ensure the best for Liberia, and in pursuit of this goal, we must come together as a united nation. It is natural to have differing opinions and preferences when choosing our leaders, but we must approach this process with the utmost respect for one another.
Let us not allow the tensions and frustrations of this moment to divide us. Instead, let us use this opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue and peaceful discussions. Remember that our strength lies in working together towards a common goal – improving Liberia.
I call upon all political parties, their supporters, and the general public to prioritize the well-being of our nation over personal interests. We must refrain from violence or incitement, as it only hinders our progress and tarnishes the democratic values we hold dear.
As we await the presidential runoff election, let us remember the importance of Unity and stability. Our actions today will shape the future of Liberia for generations to come. We must show the world that Liberia is a beacon of democracy, where peaceful transitions of power are not only possible but celebrated.
I urge the Liberian National Election Commission (NEC) to ensure transparency, fairness, and adherence to the highest standards of integrity in the upcoming presidential runoff. It is vital that the people’s will is accurately reflected in the final results and that all citizens have confidence in the electoral process.
In the face of challenges, we must remember that our resilience as a nation has carried us through difficult times before. We have overcome adversity and emerged stronger each time. Together, we can endure these uncertain moments and build a brighter future for all Liberians.
I want to express my deep gratitude to all of you for your unwavering commitment to our democracy. Your engagement, dedication, and peaceful participation in the electoral process are the pillars upon which our nation stands.
Let us stand united, with respect and love for our fellow citizens, as we look forward to turning the next chapter of our democratic values. Together, we can build a prosperous, just, and inclusive Liberia for all.
May God bless you, and may God bless Liberia.
In unity, we stand!
