Dear Mr. President:
Congratulations again on your victory. With you at the highest seat in the motherland, we are very hopeful of a transformed Liberia— a Liberia where rules and laws are respected, equal opportunity is given to everyone in a public space, and among all, the sacredness of that seat is restored.
Mr. President, in order to achieve your goals for the motherland, it has to firstly start with the kinds of appointments that you make; especially the ones at key positions including your Chief of Office Staff.
Mr. President, the operations of your chief of staff and the ability of said person understanding that role has a direct effect on your performance, and this is why I have come to say that your choice for that position in a venerated statesman in Minister Sylvester M. Grigsby is one of the best choices, if not the best, you have made.
The successes of a President of a country cannot be cataloged when his or her immediate surrounding is not equipped with the education, charisma, and among many others, technocrats who understand compound-complex issues and can break them down to the least. This is where Hon. Sylvester M. Grigsby, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, and in extension, the Chief of Office Staff for the Office of the President of the Republic of Liberia, comes. As an office created in 1971, Hon. Grigsby is the most experienced person to have occupied this position—judging from his administration, communications, and excellent rapport with people within and outside the national government.
The Honorable Minister has had a successful time in government going as far back as the interim leadership of Dr. Amos C. Sawyer. During the Presidency of Dr. Sawyer in the early 90s, Grigsby, due to his vast knowledge of international relations, and his ability to establish bilateral and multilateral relations, was appointed to serve as the country’s ambassador in Belgium. His performance in said post was exceptional as Liberia’s connection with Belgium and other countries in that region became solidified.
The experienced administrator par excellence went on to serve several other posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including becoming the ministry’s Minister. As a reservoir of experience, dedication, patriotism, and performance, ex-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf could not allow Grigsby to go by without him performing a role similar to the one he is currently tasked to perform—Minister of State for Presidential Affairs.
As the Chief of Office Staff to current President Joseph N. Boakai, Minister Grigsby has not only been an integral assistant to the Commander-in-Chief, but also an asset to the Republic of Liberia as his presence has further created added value to his office, the cabinet, and serving as a bridge between the Presidency and the rest of the people.
Mr. President, I do believe that with Min. Grigsby, your workload has been very light because he understands the issues surrounding the presidency. As you always say, “Love Liberia, Think Liberia, and Build Liberia”, it is without any doubt that you truly mean these words when you chose an impeccable character like Hon. Grigsby to steer the affairs of your office.
Thank you for being farsighted. May God bless Liberia.
