Margibi County – Margibi County District #2 Representative Ivar K. Jones is calling for the collective fight against corruption if the government and the country must boast of needed development.
Rep. Jones vowed to remain accountable to his people and also admonished other lawmakers and politicians or public officials to do same because the people are their direct employers.
He spoke at the official cutting of the ribbon to the official and first-ever, district office in Cotton Tree, Margibi County.
He said if Liberia should take a new dimension, it should start with politicians making good on whatever political promise made to the citizenry rather that always being rhetorical.
The Margibi County lawmaker further argued that it is time citizens and their leaders take up the mindset of changing the country by carrying out developmental initiatives.
He said now that the district has it an official office building, anyone wanting to do business with his office can do so at the district’s office, in fulfilment of his campaign promise of decentralization and equal opportunities for all.
Accordingly, Representative Jones noted that despite the different views and political orientation of citizens in the district, they should put ideas together to move the district, county and the country forward.

He continued: “In order for the country to succeed, there is a need for the full participation of all citizenry, but it starts with leaders being truthful and accountable to their people.”
The funding for the construction of the modern district office was possible through personal remittance for the lawmaker’s salary and benefits.
The cost of the project is in the amount of US$70,000, which was remitted from the 50 per cent personal salary and benefits.
With regards to their legislative project fund currently with the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), which is in the amount of US$31,456, the lawmaker said such fund will go for the construction of a modern laboratory for the district hospital.
Margibi County Rep. Jones is admonishing his fellow politicians not to mix politics with rhetoric but reality.
Also speaking Montserrado County District 15 Representative, Adolf Lawrence and Margibi County District One Representative, Tibelrosa Tarponweh, who graced the occasion, heaped praise on their colleague for being farsighted and developmental oriented.
They urged the citizens to put aside their political differences and rally around their lawmaker for the development of the district.
