Monrovia – A young enterprising Liberian, Eric S. Nyuma has been appointed as regional coordinator of world-renowned leadership expert Dr. John C. Maxwell’s EQUIP, Salt and Light Global Initiative.
As regional coordinator, Mr. Nyuma is clothed with the responsibility to supervise Senegal, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Guinea to train aspiring leaders and implement other transformational leadership development programs.
The founder of the EQUIP, Salt and Light Global Initiative, Dr. John Calvin Maxwell is an American author, speaker, and pastor who has written over 100 books, primarily focusing on leadership and sold over 26 million copies.
Dr. Maxwell and his organization, EQUIP has trained over six million leaders in 196 countries including Liberia.
His Salt & Light is a transformational leadership development and evangelism movement designed and created to train, empower and develop leaders across the world.
Recently, Liberia, through Mr. Nyuma’s ‘exceptional’ work, was selected along with several countries including Tanzania, Zimbabwe, India, Cuba, Colombia, Malaysia, Peru, Brazil and the United States to continue the Salt & Light transformational leadership development partnership.
Through the program, Mr. Nyuma disclosed that the ten selected countries have a mandate and target to cultivate one million salvations by 2022, similar to what EQUIP implemented couple of years ago known as the Million Leaders Mandate that trained over one million leaders around the world.
In Liberia, Nyuma has already hit the ground running. Over the weekend, in keeping with the Government of Liberia public health safety rules that surrounds COVID 19, EQUIP in partnership with Link Aid International trained sixty leaders.
The training event took place at a local hotel in Monrovia where ten persons were trained at a time in observation of social distancing rules.
Speaking to reporters at the end of one of the training sessions on Sunday, April 5, Mr. Nyuma explained that the selection of Liberia came as a result of his commitment to duty, leadership and transparency, as well as God’s divine plan for Liberia.
He said the initiative is open to every Liberian, irrespective of one’s background.
“We have come to say that leadership development is right here in Liberia and we are calling everybody on board,” he said.
“We are focusing and directing this to every person, because most often there is this perception that when people talk about leadership, they focus on those in national government, those that have financial resources and those that are at certain level in the society. But that’s not the case. John Maxwell, in his teaching has realized that once you are influential, be it at community and any other levels, you are a leader.”
Nyuma furthered that the teaching module focuses on attitude and attributes of a leader and steps to be successful.
Nyuma’s Encounter With EQUIP
Speaking further, he explained that he was first introduced to the EQUIP program in 2013 while in the United States and in 2016, he began actively partnering with EQUIP and was officially appointed as National Transformational Coordinator – Liberia.
Through his exemplary leadership role, he added that EQUIP sent a team of associate trainers to Liberia in 2017 and 2018 respectively to train and empower over fifty leaders.
In 2019, given his zest and leadership ability, EQUIP promoted him as Regional Coordinator with added responsibility to supervise Senegal, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
