Monrovia — The Executive Director of Hope for Nature Kids, Harnon Whymah-Garbo, has emphasized that the need to create awareness and keep the environment healthy must begin with young children.

At an annual awareness program for children at two elementary schools in Duport Road, Madam Whymah-Garbo noted that the promotion of nature must be done through working with these kids to develop human and nature habitat, research, adversary services, project development, and implementation, which her organization is concern with.
According to her, through the Hope for Nature Kids, which is working with various schools, young conservationists and environmentalists will be raised in Liberia.
To establish nature and e-clubs at selected schools in Liberia, Madam Whymah-Garbo believes environmentalists will become prepared from an early stage.
Therefore, she also sees the less fortunate as the most targeted, noting that these people are mostly not considered for environmental health awareness.
” Nature seems to be under severe threat among such individuals,” Madam Garbo stressed.
Hence, Whymah-Garbo sees behavior change as a necessary tool to address the impact of the environmental crisis faced by Liberia.
She imagines that children have emerged arguably, as the most vocal advocates, calling for urgent action towards climate change.
In the same way, Madam Whymah-Garbo noted that climate change education will create an impact and motivate children to advocate for climate change.
Madam Whymah-Garbo then expressed hope that these children will serve as change makers when they grow with the knowledge and concept of keeping the environment clean.
She was speaking with students between the ages of three to 17 years at a nature program organized for two schools in Duport Community, Christian Rescue Mission School and the Foundation in Christ Mission School.
The students were taken for a tour of the Messurado Wetland, SKD Boulevard, to get a glimpse of the mangroves and how to protect wetlands in Liberia.
At the same time, the Administrator of the Christian Rescue Mission School, Victor Dennis lauded Madam Garbo for her endeavor to ensure that the kids are prepared from the beginner level to growing up and guiding nature.
Mr. Dennis said the school is happy because, bringing up children in such a direction has made the school proud, especially, when they were able to demonstrate various educative activities on the preservation of nature.
He also expressed the school’s willingness to work with Madam Garbo in said direction to see a better Liberia.
Also speaking, the Administration of Foundation in Christ Administrator, Jonathan Johnson described the session as exciting, that Madam Garbo will see it prudent to work with kids to protect nature since it will also be a part of these kids as they grow up.
Hope for Nature Kids was established in 2019 with the primary objective of introducing conservation to younger children aged 3-17 years in Liberia, who have limited knowledge and no understanding of nature and the need to create awareness to keep our environment clean and healthy.
The group which is commonly called, HNKids, works through the development of human and natural capital, research, advisory services, project development, and implementation.
The organization’s core value is to ensure that young conservationists and environmentalists are raised in Liberia.
