Harrisburg – Mr. Monie R. Captan, the head of Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), expressed confidence in Liberians taking over the electricity operations after ten years of foreign management. During the commissioning of LEC Unit #2 power plant after regular maintenance at the LEC Mount Coffee Hydro in Harrisburg, Mr. Captan addressed scores of journalists over the weekend.

Mr. Captan stated that the Liberia Electricity Corporation, after ten years of foreign management, is now run by Liberians themselves who operate and maintain the entire electricity sector of Liberia. He further added that Liberians being in charge of LEC sets the pace for sustainability and smooth management of stable electricity, without having to pay foreigners to come to Liberia and do the work that Liberians can do.
“As a matter of fact, they said we couldn’t run LEC after ten years of foreign management, but now Liberians themselves are running LEC. They are operating and maintaining the entire hydro, and this has to happen because it is the only way for us to have sustainability in running and managing our country,” LEC Boss Captan said.
The LEC Boss also criticized individuals who frequently use electricity through illegal means and urged them to appreciate the work done by their fellow Liberian brothers and sisters to ensure they all have electricity to pay their bills. He emphasized that this would serve as a motivation to guarantee stable electricity.
“I hope the public can now appreciate the kind of work that Liberians are doing to ensure stable electricity through the hydro and use it by legal means by paying bills for the electricity instead of wanting to use it for free without paying, which is unacceptable,” Captan said.
