MONROVIA – The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) is calling on electorates, opposition parties and the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDCP party to remain calm ahead of the final results of the Senatorial and Representatives by-elections.
“We call on all parties, in the strongest terms, including the electorates, opposition parties and the ruling party to remain calm and peaceful, as we await the final announcement of the results of the just-ended By-elections by the National Elections Commission,” the LCC said in a release.
In the release, the LCC also called on the NEC to work expeditiously in making sure that the election results are released in a timely manner to avoid tension and misinformation.
The Council of Churches also called on political actors to refrain from negative behaviors that have the propensity to destabilize the country’s peace.
“The LCC condemns all violence, including the post-election violence on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. The LCC further denounced all inflammatory remarks made against political actors in these elections. The LCC believes that these actions have the propensity to undermine the peace and security of the state,” the release stated.
The Council said it has worked over the years to ensure that peace prevails in the country, urging all citizens to remain peaceful and work toward the sustenance of the country’s hard-earned peace.
