Grand Cape Mount County – The Management of Bea Mountain Mining Company in Kinjor, Gola Konneh District of Grand Cape Mount County on March 9, broke ground for the construction and rehabilitation of the 16 kilometers road connecting Kinjor to Jenneh Brown and several other surrounding villages.
The event brought together cheering locals including youths, elders and women, who said that when the road is completed it will impact the lives of thousands of residents in the county.
Mr. Erkan Yıldız, the Director of Communications and Social Sustainability of Avesoro, assured youths, women and elders of the four towns, that BMMC is committed to providing more development projects for their communities in the upcoming period.
He also said that the road, which would cost approximately US$ 233,000, will connect many surrounding villages and reinvigorate the local economy.
In sperate remarks, Mr. Momo L. Kaizolu, senior elder of the Marvoh Land, thanked the mining company for the start of the road project and promised to give their fullest support for its completion.
Kaizolu also said that “for too long” citizens of the four Marvoh Towns have suffered from bad road condition, which has led the district with a lot of challenges in getting access to basic services.
At the same time, Mr. Boakai L. Taliferro, one of the principal representatives of the land owners, thanked the management of Bea Mountain and promised to provide technical support for the implementation of the road project.
He also called on the youths and elders to work with the contracting company to ensure the project is completed according to the timeline, while calling on the county authority to monitor the road construction from its start till the finish.
For his part, the county superintendent, Hon. Aaron Vincent, thanked the company and at the same time cautioned citizens to be their “own eye on the project”.
As head of local officials of government in the county, Superintendent Vincent promised to monitor and support BMMC and the contracting company for the implementation of the project, which he described as “a gateway for economic” growth for people within the district.
Hon. Bokai Kamara, the Development Superintendent of Grand Cape Mount County, while officially breaking ground for the 16km road, called on the people of the district to support the implementation process.
He then informed the mining company, that he has a statutory responsibility of overseeing all development projects in the county and recommended that the road construction company should provide daily hire jobs for the local communities.
He also assured that his office will provide regular monitoring of the project.
For his part, Mr. Adama Haines, who is the Town Chief of Kenjor, thanked the Turkish Mining Company for the implementation of its social corporate responsibility.
Mr. Haines also emphasized that when the road is completed, it will bring relief to thousands of citizens in the district, adding that the bad road condition has stopped people from trading. He’s confident that when the road is completed, citizens will move freely, trade and do other things.
