PAYNESVILLE- The Ann Sandell Independent School, situated in the police academy community in Paynesville, as part of effort towards enhancing the capacities of its students, has organized a weeklong of academic activities through a Spelling-Bee and Quizzing tournaments.

The week-long activities, kick-offed on Monday, May 8, 2023, with a spelling and quizzing tournament that brought together several students, staff, parents, residents, and well-wishers with student Jeremiah S. Zaza Jr. of Grade Sixth being crowned as the winner after several rounds of the competition as the best ‘SPELLER.’
Explaining the full details of the Students’ Academic Activities, Ann Sandell Independent School Principal, Boimah K. Yoryor said the program which started on Monday, May 8, comprises songs, quizzing competitions, recitations, speeches, dances, crowning and sashing of the school’s Queen and other royal members.
He said with a Spelling Bee and Quizzing competitions which took place on Monday, was spice with a pageant competition in the school auditorium, where the students were able to showcase their talents and creativity Wednesday, May 10 was the African Custom Day and Birth Month Rally, with students dressing up in traditional African attire and celebrating their birth month with a rally.
He further said: “Thursday, May 11 was an inter-class debate competition, where students debated on various topics and hone their critical thinking skills. And on Friday, May 12 will be a day-long of fun and climax with a football/kickball competition.”
According to Mr. Yoryor, the annual event aims to attract more students to his school and keep those who are within the school not only through promoting academic activities but as well involving other extracurricular programs.
He at the same time, called on the government of Liberia to put more attention to the education sector so as to make Liberia a strong nation in West Africa.
“To have a strong and developed country at the moment requires a developing mind so we need more support and effort from the government and its partners to invest more in education in this country,” Mr. Yoryor added.
