Cotton Tree, Margibi County – Alexander Benedict Cummings, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress says the women of Liberia are the foundation of the country and as such, they should be treated with pride and dignity.
The political leader of the Alternative National Congress made the remark Thursday when he received a petition to contest the upcoming 2023 General and Presidential Election.
The group of women calling themselves “Successful Determined Women”, a local village saving group that was established in 2019 in Cotton Tree in Margibi County said their decision to petition the Alternative National Congress strong man is based on his contribution to humanitarian work in the country.
After presenting their petition, the women group gowned the Alternative National Congress strong man as a sign of endorsing his presidential bid.
Speaking at the Cotton Tree Town Hall, the Alternative National Congress political leader said: “The women of Liberia, you are the foundation of our country.”
Mr. Cummmings stated that if a person is building a house; such person will have to build the foundation first adding that if the foundation is not strong the house will not be good.
“So, to the women, you are the foundation of our country, ” he added.
“We don’t treat the foundation well, we don’t take care of you (women), we do not support you but I want to promise that if God blesses me to become president, I will look after the women of Liberia,” Alternative National Congress political leader said.
“We will make sure that you have good healthcare. We will make that we punish those people who rape our women and there will be no sexual gender-based violence in our country. All those mysterious deaths that are happening, we will make sure that we punish those people who will violate the laws of Liberia.”
“All of those stealing that are taking place that are making you suffer; we will stop all of that. We will make sure to provide a loan so that you can do your business,” he said.
