Monrovia – In its quest to facilitate academic excellence to deserving students at the state run University of Liberia, the University of Liberia Alumni Chorus on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 renewed it scholarship to successful students for the second semester 2016/2017 academic year.
Speaking at the renewal ceremony on the main campus of the University of Liberia, on behalf of the University of Liberia Alumni chorus, Madam Rhonda R. Vonballmoos said the scholarship is open to all students of the University of Liberia once you meet the necessary requirements.
Madam Vonballmoos said the University of Liberia Alumni chorus scholarship is renewable up to four academic years or if necessary up to graduation of benefiting students.
“We are please to inform you of the renewal of the University of Liberia Alumni chorus scholarship for the second semester of academic 2016/2017.
This scholarship should be renewable for up to four years or until you graduate, on condition that you meet the minimum require GPA of 3.00 or above and that you carry 12 credits or above per semester” she said.
She said the cost of the scholarship is US$250.00 per student of which US$165.00 is disbursed directly to the student by the scholarship committee.
“The total amount of the scholarship for this semester is two hundred and fifty united states dollars per student, the registration and tuition shall be paid directly to the university while the balance of one hundred and sixty five United States Dollars shall be disbursed to you directly for assistance with books and other needs associated with your school,” Madam Vonballmoos noted.
Speaking further she said funds for the sponsoring of the scholarship are raised from annual concerts held by the University of Liberia Alumni chorus.
She urges the students that are benefiting from the ULAC scholarship to concentrate on their studies and stop worrying about finance.
“There are many applications that come to us for this scholarship, but we can only give it to a few and we are happy to announced that you are people among them; therefore we hope this scholarship will enable you concentrate on your studies without thinking about the finances” She averred.
Speaking also at the end of the ceremony, a beneficiary of the scholarship student Pious F. Williams lauded the University of Liberia Alumni chorus for the effort they are making in order for them to be in school.
“We want to say thanked you to the Alumni chorus, we appreciate you profoundly” he said. Mr. Williams said the education they are acquiring through the help of ULAC will not go in vain.
“We want to say in this quorum that the assistance being rendered to us will never go in to oblivion” student Williams said.
Speaking to FrontPage Africa at the end of the ceremony, Pious Williams said he feels fortunate to be a sponsored student at the state run university.
“I feel excited. Looking at the economic trendof Liberia where money is hard to come by and being fortunate as a sponsored student, I feel excited” he noted. He cautions students benefitting fromthe ULAC scholarship to work together in maintaining the scholarship.
“For those that are currently benefiting from the scholarship, I urge them to take their studies as a prime priority; because if one is dropped from this scholarship, I tell you no lie such a person will have a very big regret looking at the present economic situation in our country” he said.
Elsie Y. Paye a first time beneficiary of the ULAC scholarship encouraged students facing difficulty with their tuition payment to study hard to reach the required grade point needed for the scholarship.
“The essence of us coming to school is to learn, but that will not be possible if you do not pay your tuition. So I will encourage my colleagues to take their education very seriously and apply for the ULAC scholarship next semester”, she said.
She said the ULAC scholarship has given her additional motivation to study harder in order to make the list for the upcoming semester and she is urging her friends to do the same if they intend to maintain their scholarships.
