Monrovia – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has expressed satisfaction over the significant level of work done at various projects inspected on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 when she toured ongoing progress of work done at the Mt. Coffee Hydropower Rehabilitation Project in Harrisburg, the NASSCORP Housing Units in Brewerville and VOA respectively.
According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf indicated that if were left to her, she would have told the Liberian people that when the hydro rehabilitation process is completed, electricity would be supplied to the nation precisely within the month of December 2016.
She said according the dictates of engineers at the Mount Coffee Hydro Dam, it was clear that electricity would be available by December 16, 2016.
“I am very pleased to take the day going around and to see how far works are ongoing at such critical national project”, she said.
Ongoing works at Mount Coffee Hydro Plant stands at 71% complete – clearly indicative of three turbines under construction/installation, which technically will be completed December 16, 2016.
This significantly tells the story of Liberia’s transition from a pre-conflict capacity to and post-conflict sustainable trajectory.
The Liberian leader made the statement on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 when she toured several ongoing projects in Montserrado County including the National Housing Units in Brewerville and the VOA, where victims of the West Point disaster have been relocated as well as the Mt. Coffee Hydropower Rehabilitation Project in Harrisburg.
At the Brewerville Housing Units, she inspected the newly constructed housing units under construction.
Briefing President Sirleaf on arrival, the Deputy Managing Director for Administration of the NHA, Prince A. Wreh said the project, which commenced initially with the construction of 35 housing units, was followed by additional 70 units, and later 58 units – now totaling 163 housing units that are currently engaged by Liberians for occupation.
Following the tour, the Liberian leader’s inspection also took to her the Voice of America old Relay Station Community, where she interacted with members of the West Point Disaster Victims Association and urged them not to return to their previous community, even though they might be faced with difficulty, but urged them to engage into agricultural activities, as a means of sustainability.
President Sirleaf assured that at the VOA Community, the National Housing Authority will constrict concrete buildings for the relocated west Pointers.
Regarding the issue of land availability for garden purposes, President Sirleaf requested the Chairman of the Brewerville City Council, Mr. Soko D. Wiles and members of his community to find available land space in the area to afford the former West Point residents to start farming activities as means of assisting them to empower themselves.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the Chairlady of the approximately 403 women relocated from West Point, Madam Lucy Brohioh commended President Sirleaf and informed her that since their relocation to the VOA Community, their children continue to be healthy, but remain challenged with enrolling in schools amid finding available land to start farming activities for productive purpose.
President Sirleaf was joined by NHA Managing Director, Samuel Wulu, Monrovia City Mayor, Clara Doe-Mgovo, and LEC Project Implementation Unit Project Director, Mr. William David Hakin, an array of government officials and scores of journalists from both the electronic and print media.
