Monrovia – Cabinet has carefully reviewed the latest update on the energy sector performance, received economic update and AfT Midterm report while mandating an accelerated progress on the energy front and the need to prudently enforce austerity actions to maintain macroeconomic stability.
Cabinet reviewed current progress involving policy issues in the energy sector, the pace of transmission and distribution, the CLSG Project, the status of the Mount Coffee Hydro Plant vis-a-viz the commissioning of the first turbine on December 15, 2016.
Cabinet however mandated a more aggressive scheme of work that will ensure results that impact the population as government fulfills its obligation to address the energy needs of the country and expressed the hope that with the appointment of a Transitional Team, the sector would begin to experience increased dynamism.
On the economic outlook and AfT Midterm report, Cabinet received updates on strategic austerity measures and policies being put in place thus far.
The updates underscored that the major objective of the AfT is to improve the livelihood and ensure better quality of life of our people. Cabinet was brought up to speed in terms of steps being taken to domesticate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was as well informed of the seconding of an expert on SDGs expected in country shortly to advise government on the domestication process.
Cabinet also received update on the two-day official visit to Liberia by Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Pierre James Trudeau on Thursday, November 24, 2016 who is expected to meet President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and select members of the Cabinet, hold bilateral talks, visit a school in Slipway in Central Monrovia and hold a press stakeout.
Meanwhile, Cabinet was updated on the administration’s legislative agenda including critical pieces of legislations the Executive submitted to the National Legislature for passage into law.
In a related development, Cabinet acknowledged the unqualified coordination and collaboration that characterized the handling of the recent near go-slow action by medical doctors in the country and commended the medical practitioners for amicably resolving the situation without rancor.
