Captain George S. Jones enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in February of 1998 through the delay entry program. In May 1998, he entered Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.
Upon completion of recruit training in August of 1998, Private First Class Jones received orders to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-East, Camp Geiger, NC, for Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) training as an Infantry Rifleman (0311). After completing Infantry Rifleman School in November 1998, Private First Class Jones was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl) and received orders to 3rd battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division (2n MarDiv) at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was assigned to India Company where he served from November 1998 to May 2001. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal (Cpl) and held the billets of Automatic Rifleman, Team Leader, and Squad Leader.
Cpl. Jones then transferred to 6th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, NC for duty from May 2001 to July 2002. While assigned to 6th Marine Regiment, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Sgt) in November of 2001. He held the billets of regimental Assistant Administration Chief S-1, Travel Section and Training NCO. He received orders to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (2nd LAR Bn), 2n MarDiv, Camp Lejeune, NC.
While assigned to 2nd LAR Bn, Sgt Jones served as Platoon Sergeant and Training NCO with Headquarters & Service Company and Scout Squad Leader with Delta Company. He deployed to Iraq in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2005 in support of Operation Endurance Freedom. In 2004 Sgt Jones was selected for the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program.
Sgt Jones received orders to the United States Navy Officer Training Command, Newport, RI in August of 2005 to attend the BOOST program. While attending the program, Sgt Jones was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt) in February of 2006. After completing the program in July of 2006, SSgt Jones received orders to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) at Norwich University, Northfield, VT as a Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) student.
While at Norwich University, from August 2006 to May of 2010, he studied Accounting and Business Management. SSgt Jones was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in March of 2009. After completion of his studies,
Gunnery Sergeant Jones was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (2ndLt) in the United States Marine Corps in November of 2010. 2ndLt Jones received orders in December of 2010 to The Basic School (TBS) to begin his training as a Basic Officer. At the conclusion of his training, and he obtained the MOS of Logistics Officer (0402).
In July of 2011, 2ndLt Jones received orders to the Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools to attend the Logistics Officer Course. Upon completion, 2ndLt Jones received orders to Landing Support (LS) Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 37 (CLR-37), 3rd Marine Logistics Group (3rd MLG), Okinawa, Japan in November of 2011.
2ndLt Jones’ tour of duty at CLR-37 was from November 2011 to October 2015. While there, he held the billets of Regimental Motor Transport Officer, Regimental Assistant Logistics Officer, Landing Support Platoon (LSP) Platoon Commander, Arrival/Departure Airfield Control Group Platoon Commander, Air Delivery Platoon Commander, LS Co. Operations Officer, LS Co.
Executive, Regimental Logistics Officer, Service Company Commander, Regimental New Joint Platoon Officer in Charge (OIC), and Expeditionary Preparation Party Executive and Operations Officer for T-AKE2. 2ndLt Jones was promoted to the ranks of First Lieutenant in November of 2012 and to Captain (Capt) in March of 2015. After successfully completing his tour of duty at CLR-37, he received orders to 3rd Marine Division (3rd MarDiv).
Upon his arrival at 3rd MarDiv in October of 2015, Capt Jones was assigned to the G-4 Operations section. He held the billets of Assistant Deputy G-4 Operations Officer, Current Operations Officer, Tactical Logistics Group OIC, Administration and Logistics Operations Center OIC, and Motor Transport Operations OIC.
In July of 2018, Capt Jones executed orders to the School of Infantry East, Camp Geiger, NC, where he is currently stationed. He held the billets of Motor Transport OIC, Communications section OIC, Regimental Assistant/Logistics Officer, Arms Ammunition, & Explosive Officer, Physical Security Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, and Maintenance Officer.
Capt Jones’ personal decorations include: the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Capt Jones has been married for nearly 20 years to the former Ms. Edwardina M. Giple of Willingboro, NJ. They have four wonderful children: Ellenster (23), George Jr. (16), Cephas (13) & Christian (9).
