The event, which took place at the Grand Bassa Unification Pavilion, was led by Liberiaโs Minister of Internal Affairs, Francis Sakila Nyumalin, and attended by local leaders, dignitaries, and county residents.
In his inaugural address, Superintendent Johnson pledged to prioritize infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and youth engagement throughout his tenure.
He also expressed his commitment to tackling critical issues such as unemployment and security in the county. โI am honored to serve as your Superintendent,โ Johnson said. โTogether, we will build a prosperous Grand Bassa for all.โ
The induction ceremony also featured remarks from several prominent political figures. Minister of Internal Affairs Francis Sakila Nyumalin took the stage to address the ongoing political rift between Grand Bassaโs two senators.
Nyumalin criticized Senators Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and Gbehzohngar Findley, calling them the Biblical “Adam and Eve” and urged them to reconcile their differences for the sake of the countyโs development.
โIf you continue to walk separate paths, Grand Bassa will not move forward,โ Minister Nyumalin warned. โWe cannot afford division in leadership. The county is in desperate need of progress, and only through unity can we achieve the results we all desire.โ
Senator Gbehzohngar Milton Findley also spoke during the ceremony, offering his full support to the newly appointed Superintendent. He reassured Johnson that he should not hesitate to collaborate with the countyโs lawmakers, including Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, in addressing Grand Bassa’s challenges.
โYou should not be afraid of me or any other lawmaker, including Pro-Tem Karnga-Lawrence,โ Senator Findley stated. โWhenever there are issues, engage with us so we can work together to find solutions.โ
Findley emphasized the importance of cooperation between local leaders and lawmakers for the development of the county, further stressing that a strong partnership would be crucial in driving progress.
Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, Grand Bassa’s female senator and Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, also voiced her full support for Superintendent Johnson. In her speech, she described Johnson as a symbol of unity and reconciliation among the county’s leaders.
โGrand Bassa is fortunate to have one of its own occupying the fourth-highest position in the government,โ Senator Lawrence remarked. โThis will undoubtedly enhance the countyโs prospects in key areas, including tourism development and youth empowerment.โ
Senator Lawrence pledged her personal support for Johnson, assuring him that he would not be alone in his efforts to bring about positive change in the county. She also highlighted the significance of Johnsonโs appointment in fostering peace and cooperation among local leaders.
โYou will not be alone in this journey. I am here to help you achieve the goals you have set for our county,โ she added. โWe are stronger when we stand united. Through continued collaboration, we can reach our collective goals and ensure the prosperity of our people.โ
