Detail of the shooting has not emerged, but earlier on today, Sam Gaye, the head of the Executive Protection Service, issued an arrest warrant for Yeke Qulwo, also known as Pepsi Yeke, for his alleged illegal possession of the agency’s weapon.
Pepsi Yeke, was one of ex-president George Weah’s top allies as head of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE).
According to the EPS release issued Tuesday, the weapon in question has the following specifications: Serial #: 97344, marking 73, weapon type Norinco 22 pistol. Gaye, in declaring Yekeh wanted, has urged any law enforcement officer who encounters him to immediately detain him and contact the Executive Protection Service.
“Any Law Enforcement officer that comes in contact with Pepsi Yeke should have him immediately detained and then contact the Executive Protection Service (EPS). Mr. Yeke is considered armed and dangerous.”
‘Flaunting your ignorance’
But Yeke, in defiance said he has not been asked to turn over the weapon which was duly assigned to him by the agency.
In a WhatsApp rant, he accused Gaye of being incompetent and called on him to retrieve his statement against him within 24 hours.
“If you’re incapable of understanding the task at hand, seek guidance from your former colleagues rather than flaunting your ignorance. To date, I have not received a formal request for the EPS weapon legally assigned to me, yet you rashly label me as armed and dangerous.”

Continuing, he said: “Your sheer incompetence in adhering to procedures has not only led you to behave like a maniac but also to publicly demonstrate your inability to handle even the simplest of tasks. If you lack the capacity, rest assured I do not; submit an official request and follow the proper procedure for EPS weapon turnover to ensure meticulous documentation.
Your failure to fulfill your duties not only reflects poorly on yourself but also on the integrity of the Boakai government. What justification do you have for baselessly branding me as armed and dangerous? It seems you have arrived at your new assignment with a personal vendetta against Pepsi Yeke.
I consider this as a threat on my life and is asking you to retrieved your statement within 24hrs and follow the proper procedure.”
This latest warrant adds to the legal troubles facing Yeke. Last week, he was ordered arrested by the stipendiary Magistrate of the Paynesville Magisterial Court for the crime of Misapplication of Entrusted Property, based on a complaint filed against him by Joseph Jefferson Chesson of the City of Paynesville.

The Writ of Arrest, issued on January 11 by Captain Roosevelt Bryant, Magistrate Police, calls for Yeke to be brought before the court to answer to the crime, which violates Section 16.56 of the New Penal Code of Liberia. The complaint alleges that in August 2023, Yeke was entrusted with US$40,000 for the benefit of Chesson, but failed to fulfill his obligations.
In response to the allegations, Yeke denied the charges, describing them as false and misleading. He expressed concern over the legal proceedings against him and stated his intention to return to Liberia within a few weeks to address the situation. FrontPage Africa is yet to verify whether he has returned to the country.
